Abstract:

Originating from the Elaeocarpus ganitrus tree, Rudraksha beads have been prized in Hinduism and Buddhism for their spiritual and medicinal qualities. Usually connected with meditation and divine blessings, Rudraksha is thought to have electromagnetic and bioelectric characteristics improving psychological and physical state. These days, its use has changed; people wear Rudraksha either as a fashion ornament or for spiritual purposes. This paper investigates whether customer motives, buying sources, and belief systems affect the psychological and perceived well-being gains of Rudraksha.
Respondents, aged 18 to 40 years, who had worn Rudraksha for at least three months were obtained from 5,000 individuals throughout India using a quantitative survey-based method. Using validated psychological scales, the study investigated stress reduction, emotional stability, cognitive focus, and sleep quality among Rudraksha users; it also examined the effects of purchase sources and astrological or numerological influence. Comparatively to those who wore Rudraksha as a fashion accessory, spiritual users regularly reported better gains in stress reduction (3.00 vs. 2.98), emotional stability (2.99 vs. 2.98), and cognitive focus (3.04 vs. 2.96). Those who bought Rudraksha based on astrological or numerological advice also reported better well-being scores (3.12 for stress reduction, 3.05 for emotional stability, and 3.15 for attention enhancement) than those who bought independently. The source of purchase had a major influence on the apparent benefits; individuals who bought Rudraksha from astrologers or temple stores reported better results than those who bought from fashion stores or e-commerce sites.
The results imply that believing in Rudraksha's spiritual relevance increases its apparent psychological advantages, therefore supporting the importance of cognitive reinforcement and placebo effects. Although fashion-driven consumers saw little immediate change in well-being, several said they felt more conscious and confident. With consequences for spiritual marketing, holistic wellness, and cognitive psychology research, the paper emphasizes the intricate interaction of conventional belief systems, consumer psychology, and well-being outcomes. To support its influence on mental health and cognitive performance, future studies should concentrate on scientific confirmation utilizing neurophysiological techniques, long-term effects of Rudraksha use, and comparative studies with other spiritual artifacts.
