Abstract:

The recovery process from drug addiction is a complex and multifaceted journey that extends beyond the physical detoxification and abstinence from substances. Addressing the psychological and social factors that contribute to addiction and relapse is critical for successful long-term recovery. Among the most important psychological and social factors are self-esteem and social well-being. Self-esteem, defined as an individual’s overall sense of self-worth, plays a significant role in how individuals perceive themselves and their ability to overcome challenges. Social well-being, which refers to the quality and stability of an individual's relationships and social support network, also impacts an individual's recovery. This research investigates the relationship between self-esteem, social well-being, and recovery outcomes in individuals recovering from drug addiction.
The study explores the effectiveness of interventions that focus on enhancing self-esteem and social well-being, specifically Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Motivational Interviewing (MI), and peer support groups. CBT helps individuals recognize and alter negative thought patterns that may undermine self-esteem and coping strategies. MI motivates individuals to engage in recovery by addressing ambivalence and enhancing self-efficacy, while peer support groups provide a sense of community and shared experience, bolstering social well-being. Through a mixed-methods approach, the study employs both quantitative analysis, such as surveys and standardized assessments, and qualitative analysis through interviews and case studies to gain a comprehensive understanding of the impact of self-esteem and social well-being on recovery.
The findings suggest that interventions targeting self-esteem and social well-being significantly enhance recovery outcomes, reducing the likelihood of relapse and promoting sustained abstinence. Improving these psychological factors fosters a sense of empowerment, resilience, and support, which are crucial for overcoming the challenges of addiction. This research underscores the importance of integrating psychological and social support interventions in addiction treatment programs. By improving self-esteem and fostering strong social connections, these interventions provide individuals with the tools necessary for achieving lasting recovery. The study offers valuable insights into the design of therapeutic strategies for addiction recovery, emphasizing the holistic approach to recovery that addresses both the mind and social environment.
