Restrictions during menstrual cycle among north Indian adolescent girls

Abstract:

Background: Menstruation is a natural reproductive function of females/girls’ lives. Adolescent girls face many physical, mental, and behavioral symptoms and restrictions during the menstrual cycle. 
Aim: To investigate the most common restrictions during the menstrual cycle in north Indian adolescent girls.
Methods: A simple random sampling method was used. The current study has a total sample population of 200 females. The sample was categorized into 100 girls from urban areas and 100 girls from rural areas. The age range of the sample was 9 to 17 years of age. Data was collected using a self-administered, structured questionnaire. The questionnaire was drafted in the Hindi language because all participants easily understood it. 
Results: A total of 200 adolescent girls were included in this study. According to the present study, religious restrictions were seen to prevail more there for 94% of girls/female respondents that they are prohibited to participate in ceremonies of religion.
Conclusion: In this study, it was observed that various restrictions are very commonly faced by adolescent girls in our society. According to the present study, religious restrictions are seen to prevail more that Adolescent girls are forbidden to participate in ceremonies related to religion.
