Background: Infertility is a serious reproductive health issue, which affects nearly 10-15% of couples worldwide. According to the Indian Society of Assisted Reproduction, infertility affects 10 to 14 percent of the Indian population. The alarming effect of infertility on the mental health of women is widely studied, many such individuals experience elevated levels of stress, anxiety, and depression. For women undergoing in vitro Fertilization treatment, the emotional and mental well-being challenges can be particularly acute, due to its physically and mentally exhausting nature.
Purpose: This research paper aims to assess the mental health and quality of life of women seeking pregnancy through IVF treatment and to find out the underlying impact of mental health on different dimensions of Fertility related Quality of Life (FertiQoL)
Method: This study employed a quantitative research design, with a sample of 150 women undergoing IVF treatment. The participants were categorized into three mental health groups: Flourishing, Languishing, and Moderate. Their differences in FertiQoL dimensions i.e., Emotional, Mind/Body, Relational, and Social, Treatment tolerability and Treatment environment among various Mental Health groups were evaluated.
Results: Results highlight that there are significant differences among women classified as Flourishing, Moderate and Languishing Mental Health in relation to Emotional, Relational, Treatment Environment, Treatment Tolerability, and Total Quality of Life dimensions of FertiQoL
Conclusion: These findings emphasize the impact of mental health status on different dimensions of Quality of Life.
